23Arts delivers its second 'Deconstructing...' lecture and performance at the Mountain Top Library with pianist Luba Poliak and violinist Anna Elashvili in 'Deconstructing Prokofiev', which will examine and explore Prokofiev's Second Sonata Op. 94a, four movements written originally for flute and piano and later transcribed for violin and piano.

This piece by Profokiev was written in 1943, transcribed for violin in 1944 and had it's first performance of the violin version with David Oistrakh (violin) and Lev Oborin, Piano, on June 17, 1944.

About Luba Poliak:
Pianist Luba Poliak was born in Siberia and was only eleven years old when she first appeared with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra. Poliak has performed in master classes for Leon Fleisher, Garrick Ohlsson, Andras Schiff and more. As a soloist and chamber musician, recent performances have included a solo recital at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago, the Embassy Series in Washington D.C. , Jordan Hall in Boston and numerous other venues around the country. In addition to being on the faculty of the Bard Conservatory Preparatory division, Ms. Poliak is also a piano and chamber music faculty member at the 92nd Street Y school of music in New York, where she is also co-director of a Summer Piano Institute.

About Anna Elashvili:
Violinist Anna Elashvili, hailed as "riveting" by the New York Times, has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster around the world. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Lynn Harrell, Dawn Upshaw, Daniel Hope and Maxim Vengerov. Alex Ross in The New Yorker, wrote "Anna Elashvili all but transformed the early, nondescript [Britten] Suite for Violin and Piano, maintaining ferocious accuracy far into the upper register”. 
In 2006 Ms. Elashvili was nominated to be a fellow with Ensemble ACJW, a collaborative program of Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School. Having studied dance for several years, Anna has collaborated with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Wendy Whelan, the Mark Morris Dance Group and others, and has also integrated her love of tango into her performances by arranging and writing her own tangos. Some crossover collaborations include artists, Natalie Merchant, Becca Stevens and Anthony and the Johnsons.
