Mathis Picard's Ancestral Stride takes audiences on a journey through the early roots and ages of pianos past to celebrate his own personal favorite of all piano styles, the legendary Harlem Stride. Picard, who has shared stages with artists such as Patti Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Jason Moran, honors the stylings of the "Father of Stride" James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Willie Smith, and others along the way.

Since graduating Juilliard, multicultural artist Mathis Picard has used his French-Malagasy roots to bring his brand of dance music to the jazz scene. Mathis lived in four different countries before putting down roots in New York City, where he can be found playing with his band, Mathis & Sound Orchestre.

At age three, Mathis Picard began improvising his own melodies at the piano and hasn't looked back since, sharing the international stage with artists such as Patti Smith, Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jason Moran, Sonny Emory, Bria Skonberg, DJ Kindness, Yaron Herman. Mathis has even tried his hand as an actor, playing the music of Fats Waller in the new "This Joint is Jumpin'."

Mathis & Sound Orchestre is the latest testament from the Frenchman. A large ensemble devoted to playing dance music from all stages & ages, the group gets every audience to its feet. Recently seen at NuBlu and the West End Lounge in New York City, Mathis & Sound Orchestre can next be found at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola and Birdland in May and June of 2018.
