23Arts Initiative past participant Helena Baillie of Classics on Hudson will be joined by world-class pianist Babette Hierholzer for an afternoon of Schnittke and Beethoven.
This is a private event open to members of Elka Park, Onteora Club, and Twilight Park of Tannersville, NY.

About Helena Baillie:
With her ‘brilliance and poignance’ (The Strad), London-born Helena Baillie is emerging as an artist of exceptional communicative depth and a rare ease on both violin and viola. A prizewinner in international competitions including the Munich ARD, Banff and Tertis, Helena has performed throughout Europe and the United States, where her performances are regularly broadcast on Performance Today for American Public Radio. Helena has collaborated in chamber music with such eminent musicians as Pinchas Zukerman, Midori, Steve Doane, Ralph Kirshbaum, the Tokyo Quartet and the Beaux Arts Trio. Her love of chamber music has taken her to the La Jolla Summerfest, Tucson Winter Chamber Festival, and the Kronberg Festival in Frankfurt, among others.
About Babette Hierholzer:
The debut of pianist Babette Hierholzer with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra was followed by numerous performances led by the renowned Conductors Sir Colin Davis, Klaus Tennstedt, Leopold Hager and Semyon Bychkov. She gave her American debut with the Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra playing Liszt Concerto No. 1 and her Canadian debut with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra playing Beethoven Concerto No. 2.
Ms. Hierholzer has performed extensively both in recital, chamber music and as soloist with orchestra in most of the countries of Europe, as well as in the United States, South America and Africa. Babette Hierholzer was born in Freiburg, Germany and studied with Elisabeth Dounias-Sindermann, Wolfgang Saschowa in Berlin, with Herbert Stessin in New York, with Paul Badura-Skoda in Essen and Vienna, with Maria Tipo in Florence and with Bruno Leonardo Gelber in Buenos Aires. Ms. Hierholzer won numerous first prizes, the “Viotti Concorso Internazionale de Musica” in Vercelli, Italy, the “Joanna Hodges” International Competition in Palm Springs and played her New York debut at Weill Carnegie Hall as winner of the “East & West Artists Prize For New York Debut”.
In 2004 she and pianist Jürgen Appell founded the DUO LONTANO http://www.duolontano.com/ Ms. Hierholzer is the Artistic Director of the German Forum http://www.germanforum.org/
She has recorded numerous recordings including a live recording of Mozart Concerto No. 23 in A Major KV 488 on TESTAMENT label with Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Klaus Tennstedt. Also she performed the sound track and double/stand-in role for Clara Wieck (played by Nastassja Kinski) in Peter Schamoni’s movie Spring Symphony about the life of Robert and Clara Schumann.
Recently she was invited to play Mozart’s Concerto for two pianos in Venezuela under conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolivar.
