Our ongoing projects and initiatives:
23ARTS SUMMER MUSIC & JAZZ FESTIVAL
Kicking off each season with the annual village Independence Day Parade, the 23Arts summer festival provides two full months of back-to-back community programming ranging from free concerts to lectures, ticketed performances, and collaborations with co-presenting parties around the mountaintop. This festival works in conjunction with the Catskill Jazz Factory to bring Tannersville-based projects to audiences across the region.
CATSKILL JAZZ FACTORY
Our regional jazz program dedicated to community building through jazz, presenting unique and diverse jazz programs, residencies, and educational workshops across the Hudson Valley. In addition to regional work, the Catskill Jazz Factory brings annual summer artist residencies to the mountaintop as well as year-round performance opportunities.
MOUNTAINTOP EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH
Our year-round school workshop series at Hunter-Tannersville Central Elementary serves students from K-6th grade, with projects ranging from blues to jazz to classical. Past projects have worked in collaboration with the music and art departments to present workshops within the classroom, school-wide assemblies, and ticket subsidies to attend various performances across the region. Recent Greene County schools added to our outreach program include Cairo-Durham and Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central Schools.
COMMUNITY LIBRARY CONCERT & LECTURE SERIES
Our free library concert series hosts a year-round array of world-class talents at the Mountain Top Library in Tannersville, giving the community new perspectives on topics ranging from Wagner's Ring Cycle to the birth of Latin Jazz and the history of improvisation.
ARTIST RESIDENCY & PROJECT SUPPORT
Our mountaintop residency initiative provides invaluable time to our artists to escape the bustle of NYC and take advantage of what our village has to offer, allowing for a dedicated time and space to develop specially-commissioned new works.
SUMMER SUNDAYS CHAMBER SERIES
An annual summer concert series as part of the 23Arts Summer Music & Jazz Festival, fit for all ages and dedicated to presenting diverse chamber repertoire to the mountaintop community. Performances take place at the historic All Souls' Church, All Angels' Church, Kaaterskill United Methodist Church and Haines Falls Methodist Church.
23ARTS ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Provided with accommodations on our village's Main Street, our artist-in-residence program brought world-renowned classical pianist Tanya Gabrielian to the mountaintop for a full year of community outreach, educational work with local students, and an array of performances featuring works ranging from the Bartok Quintet to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
CHAMBER SQUARED
Led by Anton Kandaurov and 23Arts artist-in-residence Tanya Gabrielian, this unique and innovative residency program worked to blend classical chamber music with original ballet choreography. The Initiative Chamber Ensemble led by pianist Gabrielian and a select group of principal dancers from the Pennsylvania Ballet, New Jersey Ballet, Cuban National Ballet and Hungarian National Opera came together in July of 2015 in a collaborative performance where both dance and music will develop synchronously. This distinct approach allowed each group to highlight and compliment each another’s artistic work, being at once cohesive and experimental.
