Rising piano star Chris Pattishall presents Fictions, a musical exploration of the short stories of Jorge Luis Borges. Aspiring towards both the brevity and the dense, allusive scope of Borges’ work, the performance consists of “musical miniatures” that draw upon such influences as Argentine tango, Romantic Era symphonic tone poems, and Balkan folk traditions. Pulling from allusions and imagery in Bores’ stories, as well as references to Stravinsky, Bartok and Klezmer, Fictions pushes the limits of genre and intertextuality.
Named by Wynton Marsalis as one of the top five jazz musicians under 30 to watch, Chris Pattishall is one of the most in- demand pianists in today’s jazz landscape. He has collaborated with a variety of artists across disciplines and genres, and has been featured on multiple film scores, including Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. He is currently working on his debut album.
